Hello! I am Gabriela Rath (ESR10), and I am here again to provide some insights into my second secondment within the Bio2Brain network, this time at Fraunhofer IGB. During my four-week stay in Stuttgart, from the 17th of April to the 12th of May 2023, I collaborated closely with Beatrice di Lelio (ESR1) and Erik Taylor (ESR2) under the supervision of Dr. Gruber-Traub, and could experience what it is like to work in a research centre.
Throughout this period, I had the opportunity to learn various techniques for measuring mucoadhesive properties of materials, including rheology and contact angle methods. Moreover, I gained valuable insights into the research conducted by my colleagues Beatrice and Erik within our consortium. I also received comprehensive training in Health and Safety practices and data confidentiality, which are fundamental for any future career.
During my stay, I actively participated in internal lab meetings at both Fraunhofer IGB and the University of Stuttgart, which provided me with a deeper understanding of ongoing research and developments in the field.
I am very grateful for this wonderful experience and all the collaborations made. Now, I have a better understanding of what it is like to work in a renowned research centre, a career path that I considered extensively when applying for a Ph.D. I would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Gruber-Traub, Beatrice, and Erik for their friendship and invaluable support throughout this secondment. I leave Stuttgart with new knowledge and a fresher view of my project and future career aspirations.
