The final face-to-face meeting for all Bio2Brain ESRs took place in Bern from 4 to 5 September, organized by Andrew Chan, Vincent Pernet, and Sebastian Spiegel (ESR6). The meeting focused on translational approaches to CNS diseases.
ESRs were introduced to the translation process from basic to clinical research, with insights from clinicians and study staff at the University Hospital Bern. A clinical examination demonstrated the impact of MS on patients’ lives, followed by a visit to the animal facility where ESR 6 demonstrated the intranasal application technique. The group also toured the Liquid Biobank and Neurotec Loft at SITEM-Insel, which tracks neurological disease patients’ motion patterns. The day ended with a visit to CSL-Behring’s research labs and a walk through Bern’s city center.
The second day focused on networking and career planning at CSL Behring’s campus, featuring a roundtable on career perspectives post-PhD with professionals from academia, industry, and start-ups. ESRs also toured the CSL Behring production line to understand the complexities of plasma-derived therapeutic products.
Overall, the meeting marked a successful conclusion to the Bio2Brain project, leaving participants with valuable insights and career guidance.
We thank the UBern team for organizing these interesting two days!
